Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start my first workout?

On the main screen, select a workout program. Tap the β–Ά Play button on the right to start immediately, or tap the program name to set your strength level first.

After selecting your strength level, the workout starts with a configurable preparation countdown (default: 20 seconds, adjustable under Settings β†’ Preparation Time) before the first work interval begins.

What are strength levels (Kraftstufen)?

Strength levels (1–30 in 0.5 steps) represent your training intensity – for example, the weight setting on a machine. You enter your current maximum manually before each workout.

The intensity per set is pre-configured in each program: every set has an offset (e.g. Set 1: βˆ’2 levels, Set 2: βˆ’1 level, Set 3: Maximum). You can customise these offsets for each set in the program editor. During training, the strength level can be fine-tuned at any time using the +/βˆ’ buttons.

How do I create custom workout programs?

Tap the + button in the top right of the Workout tab. You can configure sets, work duration, rest duration, icon, color, and the strength level offset for each individual set.

Programs can be organized into collections (folders) and reordered via drag and drop.

How do I edit existing workout programs?

Long-press a program in the Workout tab and choose Edit – or swipe left on a program and tap the pencil icon.

In the editor, you can adjust:

  • Program name, icon, and colour
  • Number of sets, work duration, and rest duration
  • Strength level offset for each individual set (e.g. Set 1: βˆ’2, Set 2: Max)
  • Description for each set (shown on Watch and in the timer)
  • Default strength level for this program
  • HealthKit activity type (strength training, HIIT, circuit training, etc.)

The built-in programs (6-30-50, 3-80-100, 3-30-60) can also be edited – ironTracker automatically creates a personal copy so the originals can always be restored via the context menu.

How do I create collections and organise my workouts?

Collections are folders that let you group workout programs by theme – for example by machine, body area, or day of the week.

To create a collection: tap the + button in the top right of the Workout tab and choose New Collection. Give it a name and it will appear as a collapsible section in your list.

Moving programs into a collection:

  • Drag & Drop: Hold the program icon and drag it into the desired collection.
  • Context menu: Long-press a program β†’ Move to Collection.

Collections can be renamed, deleted, or reordered via long-press. They can be collapsed and expanded to keep your list tidy.

Can I run an entire collection as a sequential workout?

Yes. Long-press a collection and choose Start Collection. ironTracker will automatically guide you through all programs in the collection back-to-back – each with its own preparation countdown and strength level.

This is ideal for structured circuit training sessions where you move through multiple machines or exercises in sequence without having to navigate manually between programs.

How do I mark favourites, and are they synced?

Long-press a workout program and choose Mark as Favourite (star icon). Favourites are highlighted prominently in the program list and appear at the top within their collection.

With iCloud Sync enabled, favourite markings are automatically synced to all your connected devices. Without iCloud, favourites are stored locally on each iPhone separately.

Are there Home Screen widgets for ironTracker?

Yes. ironTracker offers two widgets for the iOS Home Screen:

  • Quick Start: Launch any saved workout directly from your Home Screen without opening the app first.
  • Workout History: Shows your recent workouts at a glance with date, duration, and strength level.

To add a widget: long-press your Home Screen β†’ tap + in the top left β†’ search for "ironTracker" β†’ choose a size β†’ tap Add Widget.

Widgets update automatically after each completed workout.

Does ironTracker work on iPad?

Yes. ironTracker runs natively on both iPhone and iPad (iOS/iPadOS 17+). All training features, programs, collections, and workout history are fully available on both devices.

Apple Watch connectivity, HealthKit integration, and iCloud Sync work the same way on iPad as on iPhone.

How does Apple Watch sync work?

iPhone and Apple Watch automatically sync programs, settings, and strength levels via Apple WatchConnectivity – no iCloud or internet connection required.

The Watch app works fully standalone without an iPhone nearby. Changes are transferred when the next connection is established.

Why am I not seeing heart rate data?

Heart rate data is only captured when:

1. An Apple Watch is paired and worn on the wrist during the workout, or
2. An external Bluetooth HR sensor is connected (Settings β†’ Bluetooth HR).

Heart rate monitoring is not available on iPhone or iPad without a Watch or BLE sensor.

How do I export my workout data?

In the workout history, you can export individual sessions as FIT files (compatible with Garmin Connect, Strava, and others). Swipe left on a session and tap the export icon.

From Settings, you can also export full backup files (.itbackup) of your complete workout history and programs.

How do I transfer my data to a new iPhone?

Use one of these methods:

Option 1 – iCloud Backup: Restoring from an iCloud backup automatically transfers app data.

Option 2 – ironTracker Backup: Export a backup file under Settings β†’ Backup, then import it on the new device.

Option 3 – iCloud Sync: Enable optional iCloud sync to keep data in sync across all your devices automatically.

How does iCloud Sync work, and what should I be aware of?

ironTracker stores all data locally on your device by default. iCloud Sync is an optional feature you can enable under Settings β†’ iCloud Sync.

What is synced:

  • All workout programs and collections (including favourites)
  • Workout history (sessions, strength levels, rep counts)
  • App settings (preparation time, sound, haptics)

Important notes:

  • iCloud Sync is only available with an active subscription (Great Supporter or Fanatic Supporter).
  • When you first enable it, existing local data is uploaded to iCloud – this may take a few seconds depending on the amount of data.
  • When you disable it, all data remains locally. The iCloud copy stays in your iCloud storage and can be removed manually under Settings β†’ [Your Name] β†’ iCloud β†’ Apps Using iCloud.
  • The Apple Watch does not sync via iCloud – it transfers data directly to iPhone via WatchConnectivity (Bluetooth/Wi-Fi). This works independently of whether iCloud is enabled.
  • If sync fails (e.g. iCloud storage is full), ironTracker automatically disables sync and displays a message in Settings.
Does ironTracker work without an internet connection?

Yes, completely. ironTracker never requires an internet connection. All data is stored locally. Only purchasing or restoring a subscription requires a connection to Apple's servers.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed exclusively through Apple:
Settings β†’ [Your Name] β†’ Subscriptions β†’ ironTracker

Cancellation must occur at least 24 hours before the current period ends. For billing questions, please contact Apple Support directly.

The app stopped showing my programs after an update – what should I do?

Force-quit the app (swipe it away in the App Switcher) and reopen it. Programs are loaded from the database on first launch.

If the issue persists, import your backup under Settings β†’ Backup & Restore if one is available. Otherwise, contact us by email with your iOS version and app version.
